Barbering is a hands-on career path for people who enjoy style, precision, creativity, and working directly with clients. As a licensed barber, you can provide services such as haircutting, hairstyling, shaving, grooming, and related barbering services within your licensed scope of practice.
Moler’s 1,000-hour Barbering program includes classroom instruction, hands-on training, and supervised clinic experience. Students can learn barbering techniques, sanitation practices, California laws and regulations, and the professional habits used in barbershops and grooming environments.
The program is designed to help eligible graduates prepare for the California barber licensure exam. Completion of the program does not guarantee licensure. Graduates must meet all requirements set by the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.

Training is designed to help students move from foundational theory into practical skill development and supervised clinic services. Students also have access to exam preparation resources, including Milady CIMA, to support their study and review.

Barbering is a skill you build through repetition, feedback, and real practice. At Moler, students can move from classroom instruction into supervised clinic practice, where they apply what they’ve learned in a training environment.
Under instructor supervision, students may practice services on mannequins and live clients. That experience helps students build confidence with client communication, service timing, sanitation, and the hands-on techniques used in barbering.
The program is 1,000 clock hours. Students may complete the program in as little as 7 to 10 months depending on schedule, attendance, and progress. Actual completion time varies.
No prior barbering experience is required. The program is designed for students who are new to barbering. You’ll start with foundational theory, safety, sanitation, and basic techniques before progressing into hands-on practice and supervised clinic services.
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age, provide proof of high school graduation, GED/HiSET, or evaluated foreign equivalent, and present a valid government-issued photo ID. Contact our admissions team for the complete list of requirements.
Total program cost is $18,776, including tuition, application/registration fee, and books/kit and tax.
Federal student aid is available for those who qualify, including Pell Grants and student loans. The College also accepts VA benefits, Vocational Rehabilitation, WIOA funding, and payment plans. Contact the Financial Aid office to review your options.
